[Audio-Technica] AT-VM510xCB VM Type Stereo Cartridge AEX 2026 Award Record Needle

A model with stable tracing performance featuring a bonded spherical stylus. The [Audio-Technica] VM-type cartridge, a product developed exclusively by [Audio-Technica], is reborn as the “AT-VM700x/600x/500x” series (“AT-Vx” series). This renewal, the first in 9 years since 2016, offers a wide range of models, from high-grade models equipped with a line contact stylus to standard models equipped with an elliptical/spherical stylus. In addition to the highest sound quality ever achieved in a VM-type cartridge, ease of use has also been improved. All models newly adopt PCUHD (high-purity oxygen-free copper) for the coil conductor, realizing powerful low-frequency reproduction and a wide soundstage. Reducing the number of coil windings has also improved responsiveness and a light, refreshing sound quality, as well as musical expressiveness. Furthermore, changes to the cartridge’s threading specifications have made installation easier on integrated arms. Additionally, a V-cut has been added to the protector as a stylus tip guide to improve the visibility of the stylus tip when dropping the needle onto a record.

・Newly adopted PCUHD*² for coil conductors: PCUHD*² is used for the first time in a VM-type cartridge, also used in our Hi-Fi audio cables. It realizes powerful low-frequency reproduction and a wide soundstage. Reducing the number of coil windings has also resulted in a light, refreshing sound quality. *² PCUHD: Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability (high-purity oxygen-free copper wire) ・Diverse stylus lineup to meet desired sound quality: This is the entry-level model of the VM-type cartridge equipped with a bonded spherical stylus. Spherical styli exhibit stable tracing performance under various conditions. ・Paratroid coil structure adopted for the body: The “AT-Vx” series is characterized by a unique power generation system called a paratroid coil structure. The paratroid structure is unitized, and the core has no joints, so the magnetic flux is retained within a specially wound coil. As a result, power generation efficiency is improved, and excellent linearity is achieved. ・Implementation of threaded cartridge mounting holes: Compatible with integrated tonearms widely adopted in the global Hi-Fi audio market. Changing to a threaded specification has made cartridge installation easier on integrated arms. ・Improved visibility of the stylus tip during operation: With previous VM-type cartridges, there were voices saying that the needle tip was difficult to see when dropping the needle onto a record. In this model, while ensuring compatibility with previous models (replacement needles/bodies), a V-cut has been added to the protector as a stylus tip guide to improve the visibility of the stylus tip.
