This model is a cartridge exclusively for monaural LPs. [Audio-Technica]'s independently developed VM-type cartridge’s top-of-the-line lineup is reborn as the “AT-VM700x/600x/500x” series (the “AT-VMx” series). This is the first renewal in nine years since 2016, and features a wide lineup from high-grade models equipped with a line-contact stylus to standard models equipped with an elliptical or conical stylus. In addition to the highest sound quality in the history of VM-type cartridges, ease of use has also been improved. All models newly adopt PCUHD (high-purity oxygen-free copper) for the coil conductor, achieving powerful bass reproduction and a vast soundstage. Reducing the number of turns in the winding also enhances responsiveness, a light sound quality, and musical expression. For monaural cartridges, a monaural wiring configuration based on a stereo cartridge design has been adopted, maintaining stable playback performance while enabling bright and immersive reproduction. This product, the AT-VM610xMONO, is a dedicated model equipped with a bonded conical stylus that offers stable tracing performance unaffected by setup. Additionally, a change in the cartridge’s threaded mounting specification makes it easier to attach to integrated tonearms. A V-shaped cut has also been added to the protector as a guide for the stylus position, improving visibility of the stylus tip when lowering the needle onto the record.

Furthermore, reducing the number of turns in the winding results in a light, responsive sound quality. *² PCUHD: Pure Copper Ultra High Drawability (high-purity oxygen-free copper wire) ・A diverse stylus lineup to meet your desired sound quality: Equipped with a conical stylus that demonstrates stable tracing performance under various conditions. ・A cartridge body with monaural wiring: By connecting the left and right channels of the stereo cartridge body, the vertical component against the record groove unnecessary for monaural playback is canceled. This clarifies sound imaging in monaural playback and reduces surface noise. ・Employs a Paratoroidal coil structure in the body: The “AT-VMx” series is characterized by its unique power generation system called the Paratoroidal coil structure. The Paratoroidal structure is unitized, and because the core has no seams, the magnetic flux is held within the specially wound coil. As a result, power generation efficiency is improved, and excellent linearity is achieved. ・Implemented threaded cartridge mounting holes: Compatible with integrated tonearms widely used in the global Hi-Fi audio market. Changing to a threaded specification makes it easier to attach the cartridge to integrated tonearms.
