Do not be seen by humans. The latest feature film from Studio Ghibli, "Ghibli ga Ippai COLLECTION," planning and script by Hayao Miyazaki, directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, "The Secret World of Arrietty."
That summer, I spent just one week in the old house where my mother grew up, and there I met the little girl my mother had talked about—a borrower who must not be seen by humans. This was the rule of the borrowers living under the floor. In a certain suburb, there was a vast old mansion with a neglected garden. Living quietly there under the floor was Arrietty, a borrower girl who was about to turn 14, along with her father Pod and mother Homily. Arrietty's family borrowed small amounts of soap, cookies, sugar, electricity, and gas from the two elderly women living above, the mistress Sadako and the maid Haru, without being noticed.
One summer day, a 12-year-old boy named Sho came to the mansion for recuperation. They must not be seen by humans. If seen, they would have to move. This was the rule of the borrowers, but Arrietty was seen by Sho. "You are putting your family in danger," her father said. Arrietty rebelled, "I don't think all humans are that dangerous." Driven by her natural curiosity and reckless personality, Arrietty gradually got closer to Sho. A major incident was approaching Arrietty's family. —Which species will perish, humans or borrowers?
