Other finishes will require a little more work. All finishes vary, so testing may be required first. Always wipe off any excess Restor-A-Finish. 8. After wiping Restor-A-Finish dry, wait at least 30 minutes, then apply a coat of Howard Feed-N-Wax to protect and maintain the restored finish.
Then reapply Feed-N-Wax as needed or when the finish begins to look dry. 9. Carved Wood Care: Restor-A-Finish has saved many hours of work by quickly restoring color and grain depth to carved wood furniture, clocks, and picture frames.
Simply apply Restor-A-Finish with a small brush or soft toothbrush and buff dry. Almost any existing wood tone, from light Birdseye Maple to dark Jacobean, can be precisely matched with one of nine available finish colors.
Restor-A-Finish should be applied in the color that best matches the finish. If you're unsure which color to use, choose a color slightly lighter than the finish. It's recommended to test Restor-A-Finish in an inconspicuous area to ensure you like its performance and how it complements the finish.
** If the high-gloss finish appears dull due to steel wool, buff it with Restor-A-Shine polishing compound. Restore-A-Shine is ideal for the final step in restoring high-gloss finishes by buffing out minor scratches that are only visible against a light.
These super-fine lines on the finish from a distance create a "dull" appearance on high-gloss finishes and can be easily buffed out with Restor-A-Shine polishing compound. Precautions: First, test Restor-A-Finish on a small, inconspicuous area to check results, finish penetration, correct color, and whether to use very fine steel wool (0000) or a soft cloth.
Apply Restor-A-Finish to a small area at a time and always wipe dry. Be careful to protect fabrics, carpets, or linoleum when applying Restor-A-Finish, as it can leave permanent stains. If a spill occurs, immediately scrub the area with soap and water or a stain remover and wipe dry.
Be careful when applying clear coat over Restor-A-Finish. Remember, the purpose of Restore-A-Finish is to restore the existing finish. So there's no need to apply another finish over the top; simply apply Feed-N-Wax to help protect and maintain your newly restored finish.
If you must use polyurethane or another clear coat over Restor-A-Finish, wait 30 days for Restor-A-Finish to dry completely. Test the new finish in an inconspicuous area to ensure it dries properly. Do not apply wax under the new finish.
Furthermore, Restor-A-Finish may not be able to penetrate harder "plastic" finishes, wood-effect finishes, or some hard polyurethane finishes. Not recommended for floors or exterior surfaces. May not perform well on "one-step stain and poly" finishes.
