Utagawa Old Imperial Palace of Yokogawa Kokon Tenugui hand 78cm x Made in Gashadokuro Kuniyoshi, "The Soma," style, Tozai, Ukiyo-e, (Japanese towel),

"Soma no Furudairi" is a woodblock print created around 1845-46 (Koka 2-3) known for its powerful composition in which a giant skeleton bursts through a curtain. This is one of Kuniyoshi's masterpieces, based on Santō Kyōden's novel "Zenchi Yasukata Chūgi Den," depicting a scene where Takiyasha-hime, daughter of Taira no Masakado, uses sorcery to summon skeletons and surprise Ōya Tarō Mitsukuni. In the original work, a scene features numerous small skeletons, but Kuniyoshi replaced them with one gigantic skeleton, creating a dynamic effect across the entire image. Size: Approximately 78cm x 35cm 100% cotton Country of origin: Japan The highest quality tenugui fabric, Tokuoka, is printed using reactive dyes.
