Introduction to Kutani Ware Techniques: Ginsai (Silver Glaze) - A sublime color that cannot be fully expressed in words. This design involves applying transparent glaze or five-color glaze over silver leaf. It is characterized by its understated brilliance, gentle shine, and glass-like texture. Despite its dazzling appearance, it is a very elaborate technique that requires firing in the kiln one extra time than usual. *It is not actually silver leaf. Because thin silver leaf would melt, this is an extremely luxurious technique that uses a layer about seven times thicker than silver leaf.
Country of origin: Japan (Ishikawa Prefecture), Material: Ceramics (Kutani ware)
Kutani ware is highly regarded worldwide as one of Japan's three major types of overglaze enamel porcelain, and as a representative traditional craft of Japan, known as "Japan Kutani."
Perfect for gifts: Mother's Day, Father's Day, Respect for the Aged Day, retirement celebrations, 60th birthday celebrations, 70th birthday celebrations, 77th birthday celebrations, 80th birthday celebrations, 88th birthday celebrations, and other occasions!
≪Kutani Ware≫ The traditional beauty of Kaga, a domain worth one million koku.
The bold and magnificent style, exemplified by the Kaga domain's million-koku domain, is unmatched by other pottery. Even now, 360 years after the kiln's founding, the techniques are still being passed down and are highly regarded worldwide.
