A model that draws out clear, high-resolution sound with a nude elliptical needle. The [Audio-Technica] VM-type cartridge, a proprietary product developed by [Audio-Technica], is reborn as the “AT-VM700x/600x/500x” series (“AT-Vx” series). This renewal, the first in 9 years since 2016, features a wide range of models, from high-grade models equipped with a line contact needle to standard models equipped with an elliptical/conical needle. In addition to the highest sound quality ever achieved for a VM-type cartridge, ease of use has also been improved. All models newly adopt PCUHD (high-purity oxygen-free copper) for the coil conductor, realizing powerful low-frequency reproduction and a wide soundstage. Reducing the number of coil windings has also resulted in a responsive, light, and musically expressive sound. The ‘AT-VM530xEN’ with a nude elliptical needle uses an aluminum pipe for the cantilever material. By reviewing the length of the suspension wire and significantly reducing the weight of the stylus tip, the tracking ability in relation to the record groove has been improved, enabling even more musical and rich emotional expression. Furthermore, changes to the cartridge’s thread specifications have made it easier to attach to integrated arms. In addition, a V-cut has been added to the protector as a guide for the stylus tip position, improving the visibility of the stylus tip when dropping the needle onto the record.

・Newly adopted PCUHD*² for coil conductors: PCUHD*² is used for the first time in a VM-type cartridge, also used in our Hi-Fi audio cables. It realizes powerful low-frequency reproduction and a wide soundstage. It is an upper-class model of the elliptical needle with significantly improved basic performance, realizing wide-band reproduction. ・Paratroid coil structure adopted for the body: The “AT-Vx” series is characterized by a unique power generation system called a paratroid coil structure. The paratroid structure is unitized, and the core has no seams, so the magnetic flux is retained within a specially wound coil. As a result, power generation efficiency is improved, and excellent linearity is achieved. ・Implementation of cartridge mounting holes with thread specifications: Compatible with integrated tone arms widely adopted in the global Hi-Fi audio market. Changing to thread specifications has made it easier to attach the cartridge to an integrated arm. ・Improved stylus tip visibility during operation: We have received feedback that the needle tip was difficult to see when dropping the needle onto the record with conventional VM-type cartridges. In this model, while ensuring compatibility with previous models (replacement needles and bodies), we have added a V-cut to the protector as a guide for the stylus tip position, improving the visibility of the stylus tip.
