This simple, one-knob effect pedal is a phaser inspired by the MXR Phase 90. When in combination with a flanger on a heavily distorted sound, it can create a Van Halen-esque guitar sound. It also produces a very good effect on clean tones for cutting with single-coil pickups on Stratocasters and Telecasters. Phasers are often avoided among effect pedals, but the JOYO series offers excellent cost performance, making it easy for those who can't afford expensive vintage phasers or flangers to enjoy sound shaping. No matter how expensive an effect pedal is, it's useless if it doesn't suit your playing style. I think it's worthwhile to buy this as a trial phaser before venturing into vintage gear. The initial model was orange, but the sound remains the same, and the current model has been redesigned in gold with improved durability of the parts.
