[Brand] "GLASS-LAB" (Koto Brand Certified). "To move the heart" of the recipient—this was the inspiration behind the challenge taken on by three generations of craftsmen in the downtown district that led to the birth of "GLASS-LAB." Operating a glass processing business in Kiyosumi-shirakawa since 1950, we specialize in "Hira-Kiriko" (flat cutting), a technique practiced by only about 10 artisans in Japan today. By fusing Edo Kiriko techniques with world-class sandblasting capable of drawing lines as fine as 0.09mm, we developed our unique "Suna-Kiriko" technique. Beyond domestic exhibitions, we have showcased our unique technology at the Milan Salone in Italy and have been featured in various media. A glass designed to move the heart of the person holding it: "Suna-Kiriko" (Suna-Kiriko: Trademark Registration No. 6193156).
[Koto Brand] Koto Ward certifies companies that engage in manufacturing with superior technology and are committed to inheriting and developing those skills as a "Koto Brand." GLASS-LAB is a certified "Koto Brand."
[Technique & Material] When sake is poured, the pattern on the bottom reflects onto the flat-cut sides, making it appear as if the design is expanding. It is a glass that offers beauty to the eye, excitement when pouring, joy when drinking, and pleasure in its use. "Suna-Kiriko" combines "Hira-Kiriko" with "sandblasting," which uses compressed air to spray sand for engraving, creating a completely new form of Edo Kiriko. We use a double-layered glass structure—a light blue base overlaid with lapis lazuli-colored glass—to express the snowflake pattern. We use custom-made "color-overlaid glass" commonly used in Edo Kiriko.
