Excursion SHX-5.3C is a 3-way car separate speaker set from the SHX Street High Power eXcursion series. The set has been prepared for users who want a more mature, dynamic, and detailed sound than in a standard factory system.

The set includes 2 SHX-5M 130mm woofers, a SX-SAT mid-range/tweeter set, 4 passive crossovers, and MDF mounting panels. Thanks to the 3-way design, the frequency response is better divided between the woofer, midrange driver, and tweeter.

SHX Series – Higher Efficiency and More Dynamic Sound

Excursion SHX speakers are a more advanced lineup than the SX Series. These systems offer better control, higher efficiency, and a more mature sound character. They are suitable for both universal car audio installations and as a more powerful replacement for factory OEM speakers.

SHX-5M woofers have an impedance of 3 ohms. This allows them to more effectively utilize the power of an amplifier or a good factory head unit. In practice, this translates into more dynamic sound and better membrane control.

3-way design for a better sound stage

In the Excursion SHX-5.3C model, the frequency range is divided between three types of drivers. Woofers are responsible for the bass and lower midrange. Midrange drivers improve the intelligibility of vocals and instruments. Tweeters reproduce the detailed treble.

This solution allows for a more spacious and structured sound than in a classic 2-way set. The SX-SAT set places the midrange and tweeter close together, facilitating proper tuning of the midrange and tweeter sections.

SX-SAT – midrange and treble close together

The integrated SX-SAT set is responsible for the midrange and treble frequencies. It consists of two 70mm midrange drivers and two 25mm tweeters. The close positioning of both drivers improves the coherence of the soundstage and simplifies the sound setup in the car.

MDF mounting panels are included. These can be used to permanently mount the SX-SAT section, for example, in the A-pillars of a car. This allows the midrange and treble frequencies to be better directed towards the listener.

SX-SAT tweeters made of natural silk

The tweeters use 25mm domes made of pure natural silk. The diaphragms are coated with a thin layer of anti-resonance substance Activ Damping Coating.

This ensures that high frequencies sound clear, accurate, and detailed. The OFC copper wire voice coil is ferrofluid-cooled, and the efficient neodymium magnetic system supports the tweeter's stable operation.

SX-SAT 70mm Midrange Drivers

The midrange drivers have a diameter of 70mm. They use rigid and lightweight ADC diaphragms made from two pressed layers of thin paper. This design allows for a natural and detailed sound in the midrange and higher frequencies.

The double-pressed foam upper suspension ensures linear diaphragm excursion across a wide frequency range. Additional UV protection improves the durability of the suspension.

A steel basket with large openings allows for free airflow, and the EFF magnet system supports efficient operation at low power.

SHX-5M 130 mm Woofers

The set includes two SHX-5M woofers with a diameter of 130 mm. Their cones are made of a 2-layer composite of paper, natural wool, and fiberglass. The construction is lightweight, rigid, and well-damped.

The diaphragm is approximately 10% lighter than a traditional paper diaphragm. This allows the woofer to respond faster to the signal, better reproduce midrange frequencies, and provide a dynamic bass foundation.

The LXPD phase plug-style dust cap improves midrange resolution at a wider listening angle. This is especially important when the woofers are mounted low in car doors.

EFF Magnet System and Voice Coil Cooling

SHX-5M woofers utilize a more powerful EFF (Efficient Flux Field) magnet system. The central port helps lower the resonant frequency and aids voice coil cooling.

The extended voice coil gap allows for greater linear excursion of the diaphragm. This allows the woofers to offer higher efficiency, especially in the bass range.

The 3 Ohm voice coil is made of increased-gauge copper wire and wound on an aluminum former with additional cooling holes. This solution improves heat dissipation and increases the speaker's resistance to higher loads.

Passive 6 dB/oct crossovers.

The Excursion SHX-5.3C includes 4 passive crossovers. The set includes 2 SX-2WX crossovers for the midrange and tweeters, and 2 SHX-2WX crossovers for the woofers.

The crossovers operate with a slope of 6 dB/oct. They use high-quality MKP audio capacitors and components adapted for use in car audio systems. Small dimensions and low weight make it easy to install in a car.

Optional Excursion XLR resistive attenuators can be used for the mid-high frequency section, reducing the volume by 2-10 dB.

Important Information mounting

Crossovers are essential for the proper operation of midrange and tweeter drivers. They protect them from signals that are too low in frequency. Connecting these speakers without crossovers can permanently damage the voice coils. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.

Depending on the mounting location, speaker orientation, and distance from the listener, changing the polarity of the midrange or tweeter drivers can help improve response alignment around the crossover point.

Optional Excursion XLR resistive attenuators can be used to lower the signal level of the midrange or tweeter drivers by 2 to 10 dB.
