Excursion PX-6C – 165mm SQ Class Separate Speaker Set
Excursion PX-6C is a 2-way car separate speaker set from the PX Performance series. The set has been prepared for users who expect high-quality sound, natural midrange, detailed top range, and dynamic bass.
The set includes selected Excursion PX-1S tweeters with 26mm silk domes, Excursion PX-6M 165mm mid-woofers, PX-HPF and PX-LPF passive crossovers, and OFC speaker cables. This is an SQ (Sound Quality) class offering, designed for expanding car audio systems and as a high-quality replacement for OEM factory speakers.
PX Performance Series – Excursion's Next-Level Quality
The PX Performance Series ranks higher in the Excursion lineup than the SX, SHX, and RX series. It utilizes more advanced materials, better magnet systems, and refined crossovers.
The PX-6C model was designed with pure, controlled sound in mind. Thanks to the 2 Ohm impedance, the set allows for more efficient use of the amplifier, while offering a wide frequency response up to 30,000 Hz.

PX-1S – selected tweeters with a 26 mm silk dome
The Excursion PX-1S tweeters are responsible for the high tones. They use 26 mm diameter domes made of pure natural silk. The diaphragms are coated with a thin anti-resonance coating ADC, or Active Damping Coating.
PX-1S tweeters do not use ferrofluid. The OFC copper wire voice coil is air-cooled, allowing for a smooth, detailed, and natural high-frequency response.
The rear air chamber lowers the resonance frequency and helps cool the voice coil and magnet system. This makes the tweeters well suited for systems focused on sound quality.
PX-6M – 165mm mid-woofers with a sandwich cone
The Excursion PX-6M mid-woofers have a diameter of 165mm. Their most important element is a 3-layer sandwich diaphragm made of a composite of carbon fiber, PMI foam, and glass fiber.
This design combines high stiffness with low mass. This allows the mid-woofers to respond faster, control bass better, and maintain high midrange detail.
A phase plug-style dust cap improves midrange resolution at a wider listening angle. This is important in a car, as mid-woofers are often mounted low in the door.
HDR Suspension and Nomex Lower Surround
The PX-6M mid-woofers utilize HDR Rubytec Surrounds upper surround. This provides long linear excursion of the diaphragm across a wide frequency range. In practice, this means more bass, better midrange resolution, and lower distortion.
The lower surround, or spider, is handcrafted from Nomex. The wide excursion range allows the speaker to operate stably even under heavier loads.
Magnetic system and 2 Ohm voice coil
The PX-6M mid-woofers feature an efficient magnetic system with a Y35 ferrite magnet and a central vent. The vent improves cooling and helps maintain stable voice coil operation.
The voice coil has a diameter of 26 mm and an impedance of 2 Ohms. It is made of thick copper wire and precisely wound on a Kapton former with additional cooling holes.
The mid-woofer basket is made of steel and coated with a speckled anti-resonance compound. Additional holes under the lower suspension provide effective voice coil ventilation, which increases the speaker's resistance to higher power handling.
PX-HPF Crossovers for Tweeters
The set includes two PX-HPF passive crossovers for the tweeters. These are first-order high-pass filters with a slope of 6 dB/oct. The crossovers are connected in series in the speaker cable line.
Each crossover uses two parallel-connected MKP audio capacitors. If necessary, one can be disconnected to achieve a higher cutoff frequency of the HP filter.
The crossovers have compact dimensions of 50 x 37 x 24 mm. The connectors allow you to change the tweeter polarity, and the design allows for the connection of optional Excursion XLR resistive attenuators.
PX-LPF Crossovers for Mid-Woofers
Two PX-LPF passive crossovers are responsible for filtering the mid-woofers. These are 1-way, first-order low-pass filters with a slope of 6 dB/octave.
The crossovers use high-quality air-core coils wound with 0.8 mm diameter OFC solid wire. They are conveniently installed in-line with the mid-woofer speaker cables.

Important installation information
PX-HPF crossovers are essential for the proper operation of the tweeters. They protect the tweeters from too low a frequency signal. Connecting tweeters without crossovers can lead to permanent damage to the voice coils. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.
Depending on the mounting location, tweeter orientation, and distance from the listener, changing the polarity of the tweeters may help to better equalize the response around the crossover point.
Optional Excursion XLR resistive attenuators can be used to reduce the treble level by 2 to 10 dB. They are sold separately.
Before installation, it's worth checking the mounting depth of the mid-woofers, the diameter of the mounting hole, and the amplifier's compatibility with a 2-ohm impedance.
Why choose the Excursion PX-6C?
The Excursion PX-6C is a very good choice for those who want to build a quality car audio system in a 165mm size. The kit combines silk tweeters without ferrofluid, advanced mid-woofers with a sandwich membrane, and separate crossovers for each section.
This is a proposition for drivers who expect a wide frequency range, natural highs, controlled bass and a more precise sound than in basic speaker sets.
