The dB version, i.e. double Bass, includes as many as 4 165 mm mid-woofers, 2 25 mm tweeters, and 4 passive crossovers. Thanks to dual mid-woofers per channel, the system delivers higher efficiency, greater dynamic range, and a significantly stronger bass foundation than traditional systems with a single pair of woofers.

Double Bass – more bass and greater efficiency

The Excursion SHX-6C dB was created for those who want above-average, powerful sound in the low-frequency range. Four mid-woofers allow for increased diaphragm surface area, thus improving the system's performance in the mid-low frequency range.

When two mid-woofers are connected in parallel in one channel, a total impedance of 1.5 ohms is achieved. This configuration allows for more efficient use of the amplifier and greater power output. The set works well with Excursion amplifiers stable up to 2 Ohms.

SHX Series – a more powerful character than the basic sets

Excursion SHX sets have been positioned higher than the SX series. They offer a more mature, dynamic sound character and greater efficiency. The SHX-6C dB model goes even further, utilizing dual mid-woofers in each channel.

This design makes the set well-suited to installations where powerful bass, high volume, and a clear attack are priorities. This is a good choice for cars where standard 165mm speakers don't provide enough power.

165mm Mid-Woofers – a Powerful Bass Foundation

The set includes four 165mm mid-woofers. Their diaphragms are made of a 2-layer composite of paper, natural wool, and glass fiber. The design is lightweight, rigid, and well-damped.

The lower diaphragm mass improves the speaker's response. This results in more detailed midrange frequencies, and better bass attack and control. After a break-in period, the set can reveal an even fuller character in the low frequency range.

A special LXPD dust cap, inspired by a phase plug, improves midrange resolution at a wider listening angle. This is important in a car, where speakers often operate low in the door.

EFF Magnet System and Vented Voice Coil

SHX mid-woofers utilize a stronger EFF (Efficient Flux Field) magnet system. A central vent supports voice coil cooling and helps lower the resonant frequency. The extended voice coil gap allows for greater linear excursion of the diaphragm.

3 Ohm voice coils are made of thicker copper wire and precisely wound on aluminum formers with additional cooling holes. The copper provides excellent electrical conductivity, while the aluminum dissipates heat efficiently while maintaining low weight.

The stamped steel baskets feature large ventilation holes. This allows air to move freely behind the diaphragm, and the voice coil is better cooled during loud playback.

25mm Silk Tweeters

The tweeters use 25mm domes made of natural silk. The diaphragms are coated with a thin layer of anti-resonance material, which helps produce clean, natural, and detailed highs.

The drive is provided by an efficient neodymium magnetic system with a voice coil cooling system. The set also includes mounting accessories that facilitate individual tweeter positioning and sound angle adjustment.

Crossovers with Tweeter Level Control

The Excursion SHX-6C dB features four 2-way, first-order passive crossovers. They operate with HPF 6 dB/oct. filters for the tweeters and LPF 6 dB/oct. filters for the mid-woofers.

MKP audio capacitors are used in the tweeter path, and the mid-woofer path uses copper wire voice coils with increased cross-section. The circuit boards have wide traces made of thick copper foil, which reduces signal loss and improves resistance to higher loads.

Possible connection methods

In a set with four mid-woofers, two connection options are available. In the first option, a pair of mid-woofers connected in parallel is powered by a common LPF filter from a single crossover. The second pair operates in the same way.

In the second option, each mid-woofer is powered separately by a separate LPF filter from four crossovers. This option is more sonically neutral because the 3-ohm impedance of each mid-woofer connected to a separate crossover does not change the LPF crossover point.

In both configurations, the two tweeters must be powered by HPF filters from the two selected crossovers.

Important Installation Information

Passive crossovers are essential for proper system operation. They protect the tweeters from signals that are too low in frequency. Connecting tweeters without crossovers can permanently damage the voice coils. Such damage is not covered by the warranty.

Depending on the mounting location and positioning of the tweeters, changing the polarity may help achieve better response equalization around the crossover point. It's also worth remembering that the 1.5-ohm configuration requires a suitable amplifier.
