Phacelia honey - what is it?
This is a delicate nectar (floral) honey harvested by our bees from blue-violet phacelia fields - unlike linden honey, which also contains honeydew. A delicious and valuable source of nutrients. The flowering period and the beautifully colored fields are a busy time for our bees, gathering nectar so that we can enjoy the natural goodness and energy it brings!
This is the type of honey that beekeepers refer to as Polish Manuka honey!
What is phacelia honey made from?
Phacelia honey is made from a forage honey plant. Due to its flowering time and the amount of nectar it provides, the blue phacelia is called the queen of honey plants in our beekeeping community. It has blue-purple flowers and a wafting herbal scent that attracts winged worker bees to visit the fields.
Phacelia is a plant that doesn't require much maintenance and often grows as a catch crop. Its flowering period is about 5 weeks, while the harvest period can last from May to August. We love this time of year and the sight of our diligently working winged friends!
