Manors in the Suwałki Region

"Manors in the Suwałki Region" is a title that may surprise many readers. The sheer number of places described, as well as the sheer size of this book, may be surprising. After all, we don't see any manor houses in the Suwałki region today.

Sure, many people know the ruins of General Ludwik Michał Pac's palace in Dowspuda or the remains of the manor house in Stara Hańcza on Lake Hańcza. Some – thanks to the functioning guesthouse – know of the Huta farm, and that's all.

So why this book? It's an attempt to unearth, remember, and preserve a world that no longer exists (without intending to idealize or mythologize it). It has vanished both in space and in memory. This happened as a result of natural processes, but also planned actions motivated by ideology and politics.
