As a component of the epidermis and dermis, it acts as a natural moisturizing factor – it helps maintain the skin's proper moisture level while protecting it from transepidermal water loss.
The skin aging process involves the gradual transformation of soluble collagen into cross-linked insoluble collagen, which loses its ability to absorb water. The skin becomes dry and inelastic. These unfavorable changes are accelerated if the skin is exposed to harmful external factors.
