The most distinctive feature is the corrugated metal lining, which is applied by hand, one sheet at a time, by skilled craftsmen. This provides a variety of functions, including moisture resistance, insect resistance, oxidation resistance, as well as dust resistance, light blocking, and odor control. The lid has some play, making it easy to open and close, while the raised inner rails effectively prevent anything from entering the interior, enhancing the airtight seal. The cedar wood is carefully selected from thinned timbers approximately 30 years old, which are sun-dried for several months to minimize warping and distortion. Ten years have passed since the craftsmanship began to determine the quality of the cedar planks. Fourteen parts are assembled, taking into account the natural characteristics of each piece of wood, and the corrugated iron is sealed by hand using solder. Washi paper is applied to the joints, achieving both strength and beauty. We also offer tea boxes with labels featuring designs that reproduce the labels for exporting tea leaves during the Edo period.
