The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is the original basketball shoe and was once the official NBA game shoe. Composed of a rubber sole and canvas upper, it was first launched in 1949 and quickly became an industry-favorite basketball sneaker—its design remains unchanged to this day. At the time, basketball player Chuck Taylor joined the Converse-sponsored basketball team, assisted in sales and promotion of the All Star, and contributed improvements to the shoe’s design. In 1930, Converse decided to add Chuck Taylor’s name to the shoe.
