Hickson Decor Ultra Wood Stain is a semi-transparent, solvent-based protective wood stain for outdoor use. The product is certified to the EN 71-3 standard, so after proper application and complete drying, it can also be used on wooden toys and items used by children.

The product's formula simultaneously stains and protects wood without obscuring its natural grain. It creates an elegant, silky-matt finish resistant to UV radiation, moisture, and changing weather conditions.

Hickson Decor Ultra Wood Stain is perfect for windows and doors, facades, fences, pergolas, balustrades, and other vertical wooden structures. The hydrophobic and vapor-permeable coating limits water penetration while allowing the wood to wick away moisture.

The colors shown are indicative. The final shade and gloss level depend on the species, natural color, texture, and absorbency of the wood, as well as the thickness and number of coats applied.

Before beginning the entire project, test a piece of the target wood. Don't choose a color solely based on a screen sample.

A Stain That Lets Wood Breathe

Wood used outdoors is constantly reacting to rain, sun, and changes in temperature and humidity.

Hickson Decor Ultra Wood Stain creates a microporous, hydrophobic layer that limits water penetration from the outside while maintaining water vapor permeability. This allows the wood to wick away moisture and supports the durability of both the surface and the entire protected element.

This product is not intended for use on floors, decking, decking, steps, or other horizontal surfaces subject to foot traffic or standing water.

Compliance with EN 71-3

The EN 71-3 certification covers the migration of certain elements from materials used in toys. This means that a properly applied and fully dried coating meets the requirements for this type of use.

• This product should only be applied by an adult.

• The toy can be given to a child only after the coating has completely dried and hardened.

• The recommended number of layers and drying times must be observed.

• EN 71-3 does not mean the product is approved for contact with food.

• The liquid solvent product must be kept out of the reach of children.

1. Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of grease, oil, resin and other contaminants.

2. The moisture content of the wood should not exceed 20%.

3. Sand the surface with 80-120 grit sandpaper.

4. Carefully remove any dust after sanding.

5. Round off sharp edges where the coating could be too thin.

6. Protect the wood ends especially carefully, as they absorb water the fastest.

Old, uncoated wood

1. Remove dirt and loose and grayed fibers.

2. Sand the weathered surface with 80-120 grit paper.

3. Remove dust thoroughly.

1. Do not apply the product directly to the existing coating.

3. Clean the surface thoroughly.

4. Perform a color test and adhesion.

1. Before use, mix the product thoroughly, paying attention to the pigment embedded at the bottom of the container.

2. Repeat mixing periodically while working.

3. Do not dilute - the product is ready to use.

4. Apply the first layer with a good quality brush with soft bristles.

5. Spread the preparation evenly, in the direction of the grain.

6. Leave the first layer to dry for 24 hours.

7. Gently sand the surface with 180-220 grit paper.

8. Remove dust thoroughly.

9. Apply the second layer in the direction of the grain.

10. Leave the surface Allow to dry completely for at least 24 hours.

Two coats are recommended to achieve the proper level of protection, even color, and a durable finish.

The first coat should be applied with a brush to ensure the product penetrates the wood properly. The next coat can be applied with a brush or a suitable roller. The product is not intended for spray or cloth application.

• Ambient and surface temperature: 15–25°C

• Relative air humidity: 40–65%

• Maximum wood moisture content: 20%

• Do not apply in rain

• Do not apply in direct sunlight or on very hot wood

• Ensure good ventilation during application and drying

• Do not dilute the product

• Do not use linseed oil, yacht varnish or non-recommended primers before or after application

The manufacturer recommends using a suitable preparation to protect against biological decomposition on raw softwood. In the case of thermally modified wood, it may be necessary to use a dedicated HEMEL primer.

Renovation and maintenance

The condition of the coating should be checked at least once a year, especially on:

• The faces of wooden elements

• Joints and corners

• Surfaces exposed to strong sunlight

• Elements exposed to heavy rainfall

• Places with mechanical damage

If the surface was previously covered with the same product, it should be thoroughly cleaned, degreased and lightly sanded. Depending on the degree of wear, one or two renovation layers can be applied.
