Product Description The 360-year tradition of Kaga Hyakumangoku Kutani ware is mainly produced in Kanazawa, Kaga, and Nomi City in Ishikawa Prefecture, with Terai Town in Nomi City known as "Kutani no Sato," the center of the industry. Craftsmen, kilns, wholesalers, and box makers gather here. Additionally, the pottery village features museums and schools (Ishikawa Prefectural Kutani Ware Technical Training Institute), as well as support workshops. How Kutani Ware is Made - Shaping: Round shapes are made using a potter's wheel, while square shapes and figurines are crafted by hand. - Bisque Firing: Fired at around 800 degrees for 8 hours, resulting in a skin color. Then, it is fired in a main kiln at a high temperature of 1300 degrees for over 15 hours. - Overpainting: After outlining with gosu, colors are applied using traditional Japanese paints. The colors differ significantly before and after firing, making the mixing and matching quite challenging, showcasing the skill of the craftsmen! - Final Firing: The last process involves firing in an overpainting kiln at around 800 degrees overnight, depending on the colors used. If gold or silver is applied, it must be fired again in a gold kiln at a low temperature of 400 to 500 degrees. Can it be washed in a dishwasher? Repeated washing in a dishwasher may cause color fading, so please hand wash. Can it be used in a microwave? Items that use gold or silver cannot be used. Others are usable. About Crackle Some items may have fine crackle patterns in the base material. Enjoy the unique texture of the pottery. Is it made in Japan? It is 100% made in Japan. Products are sold from the center of "Kutani no Sato" in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
