Sony Brahms Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 Album

[Product Description]

Introduction

The highly anticipated new recording of concertos by master Rudolf Buchbinder, who carries on the Viennese piano tradition into the modern era, features Brahms' two piano concertos, which are among his three major B's that he excels at. The collaboration with conductor Zubin Mehta and the Vienna Philharmonic is truly a golden pairing.

Buchbinder owns the autograph scores of Brahms' piano concertos and is deeply immersed in these works. He has previously recorded live performances with Concento Hallenorchestra under Nikolaus Harnoncourt in 1998/99 and with the Israel Philharmonic under Mehta in 2009. This release captures a live performance from March 2015 in Vienna, where Buchbinder performed both major works in one night—a remarkable feat. His performance was praised as 'rarely does Brahms resonate so perfectly' and called a 'milestone' by the Vienna Courier. Buchbinder himself stated that he finally achieved a satisfactory Brahms interpretation. The performance is filled with passionate energy down to the finest details and demonstrates the profound insight of a master.
