Performing on the world stage. Mao Fujita's highly anticipated second album
Mao Fujita / 72 Preludes Chopin / Scriabin / Akio Yashiro: Complete recording of the 24 Preludes (2CD)
Mao Fujita, a young pianist who continues to perform at the world's top concert halls, releases his second album, a comprehensive collection of the "24 Preludes" composed by three different composers from different countries and eras: Chopin, Scriabin, and Akio Yashiro. This is a two-disc set with a total of 72 tracks.
Born in Tokyo in 1998, Mao Fujita is 25 years old. While studying at Tokyo University of the Arts, he won the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 2017, receiving the "Audience Award," "Contemporary Music Award," and "Young Critics Award," attracting attention from music professionals worldwide. In 2019, he was awarded second place at the Tchaikovsky International Competition, earning enthusiastic support from judges for his exceptional musical talent, which became a major topic in Japan through TV reports and media coverage. Subsequently, he signed an exclusive worldwide contract with Sony Classical, a prestigious classical music label, and in 2022, released his debut album "Mozart: Complete Piano Sonatas." Abroad, he was named Young Artist of the Year at the Opus Classic Awards 2023, one of the most prestigious awards in Germany's classical music scene. In Japan, his classical works charted on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart and he received the Agency for Cultural Affairs Art Festival Award, marking a series of remarkable successes.
Following this, the current recording project features the complete "24 Preludes" composed by three composers—Chopin, Scriabin, and Akio Yashiro—each creating their own set of 24 preludes.
Each of the three preludes collections consists of 24 pieces, one major and one minor key for each of the 12 tones from C to B, with Chopin’s 24 Preludes Op.28 (1839) serving as the core. These collections are designed with ideal symmetry, creating a diverse yet cohesive musical universe that combines poetic variety, volcanic energy, and atmospheric tranquility.
Chopin’s 24 Preludes Op.28 (1839) revolutionized the concept of the "prelude," transforming it from a small improvisational introduction into a work with its own meaningful structure. Scriabin’s 24 Preludes Op.11 (1888-96) echo many aspects of Chopin’s collection but present a more expanded, expressionist worldview. The third collection is particularly intriguing: the world premiere recording of Akio Yashiro’s "24 Preludes" (1945), a Japanese composer. Yashiro, who composed this work at just 15 years old, developed the model of Chopin’s preludes into a richly idiomatic and original musical universe.
