・【Contents】 Dune buggying, using cars to play in sand dunes, became popular on the West Coast of America from the 1960s. It later developed into a category of motorsports, and racing vehicles made to run in the desert were collectively called dune buggies. The Meyers Manx was one of these, utilizing only the chassis of the VW Type 1 (the first Beetle), shortening the dimensions at the front and rear, and then mounting a lightweight, open fiberglass body on top. Numerous manufacturers released similar models, but the Meyers Manx, produced by B. F. Meyers & Co. based in California and led by Bruce Meyers, was highly regarded for its high quality. While created as competition vehicles, many young people also enjoyed driving the Meyers Manx on public roads. B. F. Meyers & Co. manufactured approximately 6,000 Meyers Manx vehicles between 1964 and 1971 before going out of business, but it was revived under a different owner in 2000 and now also manufactures EV versions.
