Crayon Phase - Synthetic Mind (CD)

Crayon Phase's return with Synthetic Mind is a solid portion of modern prog rock: ambitious, polished, and at times cinematic in sound. The band combines elements of neo-prog, hard rock, symphonic arrangements, and light metal energy, creating music that's dynamic yet well-controlled. The production is clean, the arrangements tight, and the transitions between song parts fluid.

Raphael Gazal's vocals are emotional but not overdone, Wolfgang Bähr's guitar parts are melodic and balanced, and the rhythm section of Peter Damm and Arne Gröschel holds the whole thing together. Frank Wendel's keyboards add a characteristic prog feel. The album's themes revolve around identity, technology, and rebellion, and its strongest point is the final track, "Insurrection."
