A goshuincho is a dedicated notebook brought to receive "goshuin," which are stamps as proof of visiting shrines and temples. Goshuin, also known as "nokei-in," was originally received by worshippers as proof of their faith after submitting a copy of sutras. Many temples and shrines not only stamp but also have priests or shrine officials carefully write the date of visit and temple name in ink.
