The rules for using a wick in a handmade candle: soak it in wax to harden it and maintain its stability in the wax-filled container. Then, if the wick is long, cut it into smaller pieces. Place a wax strip on each wick piece to help the candle burn through to the end. Place the wick and wax strip in the container and pour wax over it.
