Proper coat care. How to brush your dog?
Coat care is very important for both long-haired and thick-haired dogs, but don't forget about shorter-haired pets. Regular brushing improves blood circulation, positively impacts hair growth, leaving it shiny and healthy, and also reduces the amount of fur that accumulates on furniture and clothing.
While grooming short-haired dogs and cats doesn't take much time (it's worth brushing your pet once a week) and a brush or comb is sufficient, if you choose a Samoyed, Maltese, Siberian cat, or other longer-haired breed, you'll need more accessories.
It's worth getting a felt brush, which allows for painless removal of mats. Especially during walks, plant fragments and other debris can become entangled in the fur, which also contributes to the formation of knots that are difficult to comb. Skipping the comb may require a very short trim of the entire coat.
You can care for the coat using a currycomb. It has thicker, widely spaced teeth and allows you to remove leaves, dirt, and dead skin, and also helps you find knots, which can be removed with the comb.
Silicone gloves and brushes are also available that allow you to reach hard-to-reach areas (the face, ears, and around the eyes). Thanks to special protrusions, they function as a massager and a washcloth.
Trimming sensitive areas
In addition to brushing and removing knots, it's worth taking care of your dog's paws and the area around the face. Trimming the hair with special scissors at the claws and between the pads has many benefits. Excessive hair causes the dog to slip, mats, and can cause pain. In winter, snow accumulates on the hair, which, in addition to making walking difficult, can also cause frostbite. When caring for the eye area, it's worth trimming the eyebrows and the hair around the muzzle, which will improve the dog's visibility and prevent possible irritation. Brushing not only improves the dog's appearance but, above all, ensures a comfortable life. A good habit is to brush the coat daily to remove debris and ensure your pet rests well.
