Product Introduction

The Shimokita Line (nicknamed "Shimokita Seaside Line"), operated by JR Bus Tohoku and connecting Tanabu, Ōminato Station, Kawauchi Town, and Wakinosawa Town Hall, will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2024. This anniversary comes from its opening in 1943 as a Ministry of Railways-operated bus service, connecting Tanabu to Kawauchi Town and Kawauchi Town to Mutsu-Wakinosawa. To commemorate this milestone, JR Bus Tohoku has launched a "JNR (Japanese National Railways) Revival Bus" at its Ōminato branch, which manages the Shimokita Line. The bus features headmarks and emblems from the JNR era.

The interior of the bus, a project by volunteers from the Ōminato branch, displays posters showcasing nostalgic JNR-era Shimokita Line timetables and valuable records of the towns along the line during the 1960s when it was operated by two-man crews. Also on display are JNR-era "bus stop signs" and "bus user information boards" that were used on the former "Abejō Line" (Kawauchi Town to Yunokawa Onsen).

This set includes two buses: one with a JNR (Japanese National Railways) retro design and another of the current JR Bus Tohoku route buses.
