On April 8th, the birthday of Buddha is celebrated by pouring sweet tea over the statue of the infant Buddha. This renowned agarwood incense, "Amacha-ko," is made with carefully selected sweet tea and high-quality agarwood, resulting in a calming fragrance. Unlike incense for personal enjoyment, incense is a tribute, and it is customary in Shinto and Buddhism to first offer a beautiful and favored food to the Buddha before making a request, and then receive the offerings. It is said that by beautifully adorning oneself (performing a celebratory dance like Kagura) and offering a feast to the Buddha during Obon, when ancestors who have become Buddhas from their original selves return, the Buddha's wish for a feast will be granted, and the deceased and the family will receive the Buddha's blessings, bringing peace to the world. The sweet tea incense, a specialty of the Buddha, is said to grant wishes, as it opens the eyes of attentiveness, consideration, and thoughtfulness, building a mountain of moral tradition, maintaining order that respects elders, becoming an act of selflessness and altruism, and allowing descendants to direct good deeds toward their ancestors. Extending the measure of compassion in how we treat our ancestors who have returned as Buddhas, we offer the sweet tea incense, a favorite of the Buddha, as part of the Obon festival, welcoming guests with dignity and sincerity in a grand hospitality. Offering attentiveness, consideration, and thoughtfulness brings unparalleled merit and enhances one's character.
It is polished and refined. The Buddha's feast grants wishes.
Manufactured by Awaji Baikundo, a company with a history of over 100 years since its founding, we continue to make incense sticks while cherishing our long-standing traditional manufacturing methods. The largest incense production area in Japan, accounting for 70% of the national production, is located on the west coast of Awaji Island. Among them is Ei, one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan, where incense shops line the streets—a unique feature in the country. We carefully manufacture and deliver our incense in this ideal location, which is best suited for making high-quality incense, as it faces west along Prefectural Road 31, utilizing the prevailing westerly winds. For gifts and presents, entrust your feelings to the fragrance of Awaji Baikundo's carefully crafted incense sticks and give it to your loved ones.
