Rishiri-ya Minoya's most popular Kombu is available as a damaged item. Even though it is labeled as damaged, it mainly consists of irregularly shaped and thicker pieces compared to the regular product. This product contains 150g, which is 20g more than the standard 130g, making it a more economical choice. The Kombu is so tender that it can be eaten after simply soaking in water. It can be used as a dashi ingredient for hot tofu dishes or eaten as is. Of course, it can also be used in simmered dishes. The secret to its softness is that it is harvested very young, at just 3 to 4 months of sprouting, specifically for direct consumption. The only drawback is that, being young, its appearance and color may be less appealing. It has a long shelf life and is convenient for quick use, making it a handy staple ingredient.
