A telephoto zoom lens that allows you to enjoy the high image quality unique to G lenses. Various aberrations are excellently corrected in the optical system using a single sheet of ED glass, and sharp image quality can be obtained with high contrast over the entire zoom range. By adopting an SSM (ultrasonic motor) with a built-in lens and a rear focusing system, quick and quiet AF is achieved. Also, the natural and beautiful blur due to the use of a circular aperture is also attractive. Operability such as focus hold buttons and focus range changeover switches has also been taken into consideration. With a minimum shooting distance of 1.2 m, it is also strong in close-up photography, and is useful in a wide range of shooting genres such as landscapes and portraits.

MTF (modulation transfer function) MTF is a lens performance evaluation method that shows the contrast reproducibility of a lens. Frequency characteristics express how faithfully the image reproduces the subject on the imaging surface. In the MTF characteristic diagram, the horizontal axis is the distance (mm) from the center of the screen and the vertical axis is the contrast, and MTF characteristics are represented by conditions for direction (radial: R, concentric: T) and aperture value (opening, F8) for typical spatial frequencies (10 strings/mm, 30 strings/mm).
