A playful wooden puzzle box for small treasures, shaped as a frog and made to be handled as much as admired. It brings a little curiosity to a shelf, dresser or bedside table, with a hidden centre compartment revealed through a sequence of moving pieces.
What you’ll notice
The frog form gives it a light, storybook character, more charming object than ordinary storage box.
The puzzle opening turns a simple moment into a small ritual, slow enough to make the contents feel considered.
The Saman wood brings natural warmth, with grain that suits calm, earthy interiors.
It works well for a little keepsake, a note, a piece of jewellery or a small gift tucked out of sight.
The irregular shape gives it a more organic presence than a square box on a table.
Saman wood with a puzzle opening
This decorative box is made from Saman wood and belongs to the Bali Magic Boxes range. It follows the same idea as Indian wooden puzzles: the pieces need to be moved in the right order before the centre opens.
How to use and care for it
Use it for small keepsakes rather than everyday clutter. Take a moment to learn the opening sequence, then close the pieces gently so the puzzle keeps its shape.
Keep the wood dry, away from prolonged damp, and dust it with a soft cloth. As with any natural wood object, a little variation in shape and grain is part of its character.
A small tradition of hidden things
Puzzle boxes appear in several craft traditions, from Japanese secret boxes to Indian wooden puzzles, all built around the pleasure of sequence, patience and discovery. This frog-shaped version keeps that idea light and domestic. It is not a security box, but a playful place for something personal: a ring before sleep, a tiny note, a coin from a journey, or a gift that should be found slowly rather than handed over at once.
