The Portacapture X8 offers uncompromising audio quality, even with quiet recordings, which can be increased in volume during post-editing without compromising the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N). Without the need for driver installation, the Portacapture X8 can be used as a compact mixer with built-in microphones, for live streaming via OBS or similar platforms, and offers direct recording of narration and dialogue for video, directly into DAWs, or editing software.

Thanks to support for USB Type-C power, the device can also support any external microphone requiring phantom power via USB. During audio/video conferencing, you can use the Portacapture X8 as a stereo microphone and simultaneously record audio.

The Portacapture X8 features two high-quality condenser microphones, each with a diameter of 14.6mm—the largest in our line. Thanks to the detachable mechanism, both microphones can be easily connected and disconnected from the device to create an A-B or X-Y polar pattern.

Combined with a dual A/D converter, 32-bit float processing, and a sampling rate of up to 192kHz, the device's built-in microphones capture absolutely everything—from the quietest rustle to the loudest performance.

The Portacapture X8 can be remotely controlled from mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets—using the optional AK-BT1 Bluetooth adapter and the Portacapture Control app, available for free in the Apple Store or Google Play.

This allows you to record, for example, the sounds of nature without your presence or your own noises interfering with the recording. Timecode synchronization significantly simplifies the post-production process because files can be aligned using the time base. This is especially helpful in projects using multiple cameras or recorders.

Wireless timecode synchronization is possible with Atomos AtomX Sync, UltraSync Blue, and other compatible products* such as Atomos Connect and Shogun Connect.

The Portacapture X8 can record up to eight audio tracks simultaneously (six individual tracks + a stereo mix), which can be applied with a noise gate, compressor, EQ, or reverb, just like on a mixing console. Manual mode allows you to set levels and stereo positions for each of the six input tracks and create a stereo mix, ready for publishing as a podcast, vlog, song, etc.

For the XLR/TRS inputs, Tascam-designed HDDA microphone preamps enable high-quality audio recording.

Four professional-grade, locking XLR/TRS combo connectors make the Portacapture X8 ready for most everyday recording challenges. An additional mini-jack input and output allow you to connect to a camera or other audio devices. When creating a video, you can, for example, record a remote control with clapperboard sounds onto your camera to facilitate synchronization during post-production. You can adjust the output level to your camera, making it compatible with virtually any model.
