Product Introduction
Atlantis Models "1/56 IM-99 Bomarc Missile" plastic model kit.
The IM-99 Bomarc is a long-range surface-to-air missile developed by the U.S. Air Force to intercept Soviet bombers. Initially deployed as an unmanned fighter, it was designated the F-99.
After its first flight in 1952, the U.S. Air Force renamed the conventional warhead version the IM-99.
With a long range of approximately 400 kilometers, the Bomarc had a significant technological impact on many countries, forcing neighboring countries to abandon their own interceptor fighter development programs.
The IM-99 was remotely launched using an automated control system used by NORAD, and remained in service with the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force until 1972.
