Powered only by AAA batteries. Q: What is the role of the switch on the product? A MKE 400 has two types of switches on one side. On the right side of the indicator is the "power switch + low cut switch", and the settings are "off", "on + low cut", and "on" from the right. Use the low-cut function when you are concerned about wind noise when using outdoors. If wind noise still enters the audio, we recommend using the optional accessory MZW 400. The left side of the switch is called the vol (sensitivity changeover) switch, and from the right are "+" (high sensitivity) and "-" (normal sensitivity). Q Which setting is recommended for the vol (sensitivity changeover) switch? A The normal sensitivity of the MKE 400 is set to "-" based on the assumption that it will be used to make the sound louder with the amplifier installed in a digital SLR camera, but the actual function purposely reduces the output from the microphone. Additionally, some digital SLR models are equipped with amplifiers that produce a lot of noise or have poor linearity (the ability to accurately make the sound louder). Therefore, we recommend that you set the microphone to "+ (high sensitivity)" and adjust the volume of your SLR camera to a low setting. If the following situations occur when the volume of the recording target is high or the sound source is close to the microphone, set it to "- (normal sensitivity)". •If the meter on the SLR camera is completely turned down (the input level exceeds the SLR's allowable input level) •If the meter on the SLR camera is not full, but the sound is distorted (distortion occurs at the microphone) Q: When I turn on the power, the indicator lights red and then immediately goes out. Is this normal? A It is by design that the red indicator disappears immediately and is normal operation. This is a specification to extend the usage time. When the battery is low (less than about 50 hours with a typical alkaline battery), the indicator will always turn red. Please consider replacing the battery.
