Kyo-yaki (Kiyomizu ware) is one of Kyoto's most representative traditional crafts. Its origins lie in the area around Gojozaka, the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, where many kilns, including those of Kiyomizu Rokubei and Takahashi Michihachi, were located. Tenmoku ware was introduced to Japan during the Kamakura period and highly prized as tea ceremony utensils. Enjoy the diverse expressions of the glaze that captivates people. Because the glaze changes dramatically depending on the kiln and flame conditions, each piece has a different hue and texture. As these pieces are handmade, slight variations in size may occur.
