[Unit Description]
The Abyss Crawler is a third-generation Hexa Gear developed by the Liberty Alliance.
It was developed for the purpose of exploring and conquering confined terrain such as culverts. Unlike other third-generation units, it has two Zoatex modes, and its Zoatex mode is always active.
At the start of the war, urban centers across the country were subjected to surprise attacks by unmanned Hexa Gear known as Hidestorms. Subsequent investigations revealed the existence of numerous other large underground pipes and facilities from ancient times that had been used as infiltration routes during the attacks, and the Liberty Alliance urgently needed to uncover the full extent of these. As a result, almost all geographical information about the underground structure beyond a rough outline was lost, and the area had already become enemy territory, roamed by MSG Valiant Force Hexa Gear and droids.
Hidestorms, particularly VIC Blades, excel in electronic warfare and pose a particular threat. By exposing communication lines, repeaters, and power lines connecting cities, they threaten the Liberty Alliance's cooperation from underground. The Liberty Alliance recognized the need to clear this contaminated underground space and quickly assembled a dedicated unit and Hexa Gear.
The development involved salvaging the remains of destroyed Hidestorms and redesigning their frame structure. However, VIC Blades have no way of replicating, controlling, or neutralizing the phenomenon, and so remain a second-best countermeasure. This includes the Invasion Counter Shield, commonly known as "ICS," equipped on the left arm. Due to a chronic parts shortage, only a small number were initially produced, and teams were organized and sent into the underground darkness. The underground space contained countless heavily contaminated areas (Level 6 "Abyss") caused by the operation of crystalline reactors, far exceeding the contaminated areas on the surface. The Abyss Crawler crawled through sludge and rubble, sometimes engaging in battles with Hidestorms and sometimes with small droids, fighting battles unnoticed.
