The 10-car set and 5-car accessory set feature the N4 and N54 formations, which were seen at Tamachi Electric Railway Depot around 1992 and were made up of SaRo 212 (two-story) and SaRo 211 (regular type).
The special edition features the N1 and N51 formations, which were seen at Tamachi Electric Railway Depot in 1986, the final years of JNR's existence.
These formations feature the absence of the bead and orange stripe on the panel next to the direction sign at the end of the cars, and the circular base for the train radio antenna.
The roof-mounted ventilators are reproduced with separate parts.
The unique texture of stainless steel cars is reproduced.
The pantograph is a new PS21.
The headlights and taillights feature equal-sized casings. The headlights, taillights, and front display lights on all leading cars (with switches to turn them off) are illuminated.
The powered car is equipped with a slotless motor, and the included train set does not have traction tires for coupled operation.
The intermediate coupling section is equipped with a body-mounted KATO close-coupled coupler as standard, providing a realistic coupling surface and smooth running.
The leading coupling section uses a KATO close-coupled coupler (without a hook), and electrical coupler parts are included.
The front display comes pre-installed with "Local" sign. Replacement signs include "Rapid Acty" for the 10-car set and 5-car included train set (JR specification), and "Tokaido Line" for the special edition (JNR specification).
