A "specialty car" is a passenger car with a sports car-style body.
While this category originated in the United States, the Mitsubishi Galant GTO, which was released in 1970, is said to be the first to be introduced in Japan.
The top-grade MR was a high-performance version equipped with Mitsubishi's first DOHC engine, and its exterior features include side stripes and a duct on the hood.
In a minor change in 1972, the MR also underwent changes to the grille, taillight color, and body color options, and the "Colt" name was dropped, causing it to disappear in 1973.
1970, the year the Galant GTO was released, was also the year Tomica was born.
As it was such a popular model, Tomica also released it in 1972, and the Galant GTO was the No. 1 in the 1/45 scale Tomica Dandy series.
This famous and rare model, even among the early Tomica series, is now being produced as a TLV-NEO.
This time, it's available in white, a classic color alongside orange, and a yellow-green body color, which is said to have existed on only a small number of actual cars in the very early days.
