Kamoshika Douguten's pottery is made from Banko ware, a traditional craft from Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture, using clay rich in petalite (petalite), known for its heat resistance and durability. The clay used in this rice pot, in particular, is uniquely blended with the manufacturer's proprietary petalite content to maximize its properties. It's designed to prevent cracking and other deterioration that often occurs with continued use. The petalite glaze also incorporates petalite, making this rice pot durable enough to withstand direct heat (even empty).
Material: Heat-resistant ceramic
Size: 3-cup size
Weight: Approximately 1940g
For cooking 2 cups of rice: Rice: 3 cups (540cc) / Water: 600cc (Cooking time: Approximately 16 minutes)
Dimensions: Width (including handle): 22cm
Height: 13cm
Diameter: 19cm
As each pot is handmade, slight variations in shape, color, and texture may occur. The lid may be loose, but this does not affect use. ● As you use the pot, fine cracks will appear on the surface. This is a characteristic of pottery called crazing. The color of the clay will appear through the cracks, making them particularly noticeable on white pots. ● When heated, the outside of the pot will burn and turn black, resulting in a different appearance after use than when purchased. This is also a characteristic of pottery.
[Note] We recommend sealing the cracks before using the pot. Sealing is a maintenance procedure performed on unused pots to prevent cracking, reduce odor transfer, and maintain durability for a long time. [How to Seal] Fill a pot 80% full with rice water (or a solution of potato starch or wheat flour) from rinsing about 2 cups of rice and bring it to a boil. After boiling, let it cool, discard the water, wash thoroughly, and dry.
