Kimekomi dolls are said to have originated at Kamigamo Shrine in Kyoto around 1740. This is a collaboration between "Maneki-neko" and "Hello Kitty," made using the traditional Japanese doll-making method of carving grooves into the doll's body, then placing the edges of fabric into the grooves and securing them with glue. Each kimono pattern is subtly different, meticulously crafted down to the smallest detail. Kakinuma Toko has created a new world of maneki-neko by incorporating materials not previously used in Kimekomi.
