Gifu Clarazar (session recording)
The quintessence of Beethoven's groundbreaking chamber music, finally brought to life by the master.
This extraordinary violinist, who celebrated his 60th anniversary as a performer in 2022 and his 80th birthday in 2023, finally presents the world with the complete set of Beethoven's 10 violin sonatas. Maebashi collaborated with pianist Christoph Eschenbach on two of Beethoven's most popular violin sonatas, "Spring (No. 5)" and "Kreutzer (No. 9)," released in 1993. However, he has not recorded another Beethoven sonata since then, and this is his first complete recording of the entire series in over 30 years. While "Spring" and "Kreutzer" are re-recordings, they demonstrate the deepening of Maebashi's artistic talent over the past 30 years. This time, he collaborates with Armenian pianist and conductor Vahan Mardirossian. Having performed together at Maebashi's Japan concerts over the past few years, the two artists developed a mutual trust in each other's artistry. Over a period of more than two weeks, from 2023 to 2024, they recorded the musical genius's ten sonatas for violin and piano at the Clarazar, a renowned chamber hall in Gifu. These will be released as a set of SACD hybrid discs.
