The Su-57 is a fifth-generation fighter aircraft developed under the "Future Combat Complex for Tactical Air Forces" program, the Russian Air Force's next-generation main fighter development program. It is a successor to the aging MiG-29 and Su-27. The Sukhoi design was adopted in 2002, and full-scale development began. Initially scheduled for 2009, the first flight was slightly delayed, and it took place in January 2010 under the Sukhoi Design Bureau name "T-50." The aircraft that made its first flight featured large tapered wings with swept-back leading edges and forward-swept trailing edges, with the fuselage's side angles and the tail angle aligned. In 2017, the Russian Air Force designated the aircraft as the Su-57.
