Electro-Harmonix ABOUT electro-harmonix
Electro-Harmonix was founded by Mike Matthews in October 1968. The first product was a fuzz pedal called "Axis Fuzztone". Later, the linear power booster "LPB-1", which could be called the original booster, was created with Bob Meyer, an engineer at Bell Labs, a research institute that has won numerous Nobel Prizes in physics. It was a huge hit even though it was only available by mail order, and the Electro-Harmonix brand became widely known. Then, in the latter half of 1969, they released the famous "Big Muff", and in the 1970s, they released a series of models that are still popular today, such as the Small Stone and Memory Man, which recorded strong sales. Although the company was doing well in the 1970s, it faced problems with labor unions and parts supplies in the 1980s, and went bankrupt in 1984. So Mike Matthews went to the former Soviet Union and founded a new company, "New Sensor Corp.," in 1988. Under the "Sovtec" brand, the company produced a series of products such as vacuum tubes, effects, and amplifiers, and made a comeback as a comprehensive music equipment manufacturer. In 1991, the company regained the Electro-Harmonix trademark that it had once lost, and in 2002 returned to its base in New York, where it continues to deliver unique effects to many players around the world.
EHX TORTION is Electro-Harmonix's flagship model, and is the most advanced form of overdrive/distortion in modern times. By adopting analog JEFT (op-amp) technology that provides a sound with tube-like response and tone, the overdrive/distortion sound of a vacuum tube amplifier is contained in a small size. In addition, the 3-BAND EQ and PRE-GAIN switch further refine the sound, and the footswitchable BOOST mode functions as another channel with a modern high-gain tone. Even if you connect the D.I. Output with built-in amp/speaker simulator directly to a mixing console or recording equipment, you can create a powerful sound like it is being output from a real 4x12 cabinet. We would like you to try this effect that covers a vast sound range and is suitable for a wide range of uses that redefines the meaning of the word versatility. Drive pedal that supports a wide range of sound creation MODE operation: NORMAL VS. BOOST
EHX TORTION has two modes, [NORMAL] and [BOOST]. In NORMAL mode, the three jet stages produce low to medium level gain sounds. The VOLUME and GAIN controls are located on the upper stage on the surface of the case. Turning the BOOST switch ON switches to BOOST mode, where the fourth gain stage produces a modern high gain sound. The BOOST VOLUME and GAIN control knobs are located on the lower stage. The VOLUME and GAIN controls of each mode are completely independent, and the two modes function like different channels of a tube amplifier. 4-way PRE-GAIN control PRE-GAIN switch allows for a wide range of sound creation
This switch adjusts the level and tone of the initial input signal (4 levels). The two settings on the left are lower input signals, giving you a vintage plexi tone. The two on the right are more high-gain, modern and powerful sounds. Both PRE-GAIN settings have two tones (FULL or TIGHT), labeled [F] or [T]. FULL gives you a sound with emphasized low frequencies, and TIGHT gives you a more modern tone.
