Product Description: Established in 1976 Cooperative Commitment to People and the Environment Herbal Supplements USDA Organic Certified Kosher Radiation-Free Certified Organic by QAI Lemon balm is a sweet lemon-scented herb from the mint family. This shrub grows up to 3 feet tall and produces small, pale ivory-colored flowers. Native to Europe and the Mediterranean, it has been cultivated for over 2,000 years. Its subtle lemon, minty, and herbal aromas make it a popular relaxing tea. The botanical name Melissa officinalis L. comes from the Greek word for “bee.” Lemon balm is great for attracting bees, and beekeepers once rubbed fresh lemon balm leaves into new hives to attract bees. Our premium quality lemon balm leaves dry quickly and are kept in cool, low light conditions to preserve their color and distinctive aroma and flavor. Product Features This easy-to-grow perennial herb attracts bees and has a sweet aroma. All of the aboveground parts of the plant are fragrant, but the leaves contain the most essential oils. Look for a nice medium green color, indicating good quality. Dark or black leaves are poorly dried. Products labeled as herbs can contain up to 60% stems, but the woody stems are of little value, which is why lemon balm leaves are more expensive than lemon balm ‘herb’.
