Emotion and reason become a single voice, when one of the most illustrious thinkers of Western philosophy pays his tribute to another of equal stature and importance, after his passing. Farewell to Emmanuel Lévinas is the junction of two moments, subsequent to the passing of the great thinker. The first of them, in 1995, is the 'Farewell' speech of the disciple, the interlocutor, and the admirer for the recent death of his master. The most extensive essay, 'The Word Welcome', was conducted the following year, on the occasion of a tribute to Lévinas at the 'Visage et Sinaï' meeting, addressing the concepts of the words 'welcome' and 'hospitality' as fundamental points to be highlighted from his work. It is the farewell of Jacques Derrida - one of the most representative names of philosophical contemporaneity - to one of his main intellectual mentors and, at the same time, an assessment of the importance of his legacy. The publication, by the publisher Perspectiva in the collection Debates, of this small work in which emotion and reason combine in a sensitive expression, rarely achieved in the personal and intellectual relationships between contemporary philosophers, makes possible the contact of readers with the affinities and the specificities of the thought of these two great exponents of philosophy in our time.
