"Lightnin' Hopkins 100th Anniversary" Sam John Hopkins was born on March 15, 1912 in Centerville, Texas. The boy who learned guitar from Blind Lemon Jefferson eventually became the one and only "Lightning Man" and continued to belt out dirty, low-down blues until his death on January 30, 1982. Lightnin laughed off the trends of the times with sunglasses on and a cigarette in his mouth, and left behind a huge number of recordings on countless labels during his 70-year life. His blues life is truly legendary. 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of Lightnin' Hopkins' birth and 30 years since his death.
