■The higher-level mono-only model “AT33MONO” is a traditional 33 series model
The MC type (moving coil) mono cartridge “AT33MONO,” which is compatible with Audio-Technica's stereo playback system, has coils arranged horizontally and basically only generates electricity in the horizontal direction. The sound quality is excellent because it has a structure that makes it difficult to pick up unnecessary distortion due to scratches or warping of records. It is structured so that sound images that cannot be obtained with stereo cartridges can be obtained. It has a certain degree of vertical compliance, and there is no damage to the record even when playing a stereo record. Due to the dual coil system with separate coils for L and R, mono records can be played back using the L and R speakers simply by connecting to a normal stereo cartridge. Since L and R are not shorted and no ground loop is created during connection, the sound quality is excellent, and hum is less likely to occur.
■Realize natural sound quality with a round stylus tip and a high-hardness duralumin cantilever
A round needle is suitable for mono records where the depth of the sound groove does not change. As a result of auditioning the “AT33MONO,” a stylus tip with a tip curvature radius of 0.65 mil was used, which was able to express the medium and low frequencies thicker, and also did not lose the amount of information in the high frequencies and a sense of speed. This round needle tip is placed on a high-hardness duralumin pipe cantilever, and clear, natural sound quality can be obtained with little distortion. Furthermore, by drilling a hole in the cantilever, the chip can be embedded and bonded, which is also advantageous in terms of sound quality and strength. By supporting these vibration systems with double dampers, resonance is dispersed, and we have succeeded in obtaining even more stable traces and linear frequency characteristics.
