Product introduction
Martinique is one of France's overseas prefectures floating in the Lesser Antilles, which is distributed from the east end to the southeast end of the Caribbean Sea. And here is Malavoie, a group that has been active for many years in a region with a cultural background that exquisitely blends France and the Caribbean. Rice Records has introduced “The Ultimate Best” (FMR-50009), which is hailed as their greatest masterpiece until now, as well as “The Ultimate Best” (), etc. with a luxurious 4CD+DVD, etc., but now they have decided to distribute the latest work they are currently releasing in 2020 domestically.
Malavoie, formed in 1969 in Lucinique, has a major characteristic in its sound that is a modern reconstruction of music that was popular on the Martinique dance floor, such as Begin and Mazurka, while incorporating the influence of the Cuban musical style “charanga.” Also, the arrangement centered on lustrous strings, which can be said to be a trademark, fascinated music fans around the world, especially in the 80s, when they were excited about world music. After that, Ralph Tamar, who was the signature singer, left the group, and although it was temporarily sluggish when Polo Rosine, who was the leader, passed away in 1993, etc., Ralph participated as a guest on the 2007 live album “La Cigale 2007,” and when he made a full-scale return with the 2009 studio edition “Pep La” (alternative pop), it regained its former brilliance. After that, after going through the 40th anniversary live album and “Olliwon” (alternative pop) where many guest singers participated, the first original album in a long time was this work “Mashibol,” which was released at the end of 2020.
It is a new band system built after “Pep La” centered around the current leader and percussionist/vibraphone player, and no guest singers other than Ralph participated in this work, so you can enjoy 100% fruit juice Malavoie. The title “Massibor” has the meaning of “strong woman” in Creole, and the theme is a tribute to the great women involved in the development of Martinique and neighboring Guadeloupe. In addition to new songs by Nicole Penn, what is being picked up is a number composed by former leader Polo Rosine, Lulu Boiraville, who led the Begin Band “Groupe Folklorique Martiniquais,” and Nicole's older brother Jackie, who is in charge of arranging half of this song. Furthermore, what is noteworthy is that Miyake Jun, a Japanese musician based in Paris and active in the world, is in charge of arranging one song, and strings and piano are added mainly to the vibraphone, making the fantastic Creole instrumental fun to the fullest.
No matter who listens to it, this work is finished in fresh, danceable, yet progressive Creole music, and is definitely a French Caribbean masterpiece rarely seen in recent years! And don't miss out on listening to the world music works representing 2021!
