This is M1956 water bottle cover which was the standard water bottle (canteen) cover used in the Vietnam war by the US Army. The cover is lined and is closed by two flaps which are secured by press studs, metal belt keepers on the back so you can fit it onto M56 belts or onto the Lightweight ruck etc. Comes with the correct US stamped on the front and the correct markings on the back. Fits the standard US military plastic 1 qt water bottle (called a canteen in America) but in Vietnam they where also used to carry extra M16 magazines.
