As of March 2012, the number of North Korean defectors who have settled in South Korea is about 23,500. After arriving in South Korea, North Korean defectors face many difficulties due to the language difference between the two Koreas. Among them, it is very difficult because of the unfamiliar vocabulary of South Korea. In particular, numerous loanwords and foreign languages put a lot of burden on the language life of North Korean defectors. This textbook was published to help North Korean defectors who are having difficulties due to unfamiliar South Korean vocabulary. When selecting words, interviews with 93 North Korean defectors were conducted and help was obtained from North Korean defectors. In addition, a North Korean defector verification group was formed to verify the contents and practicality of textbooks, and the results of several satisfaction surveys targeting North Korean defectors were reflected in the textbooks to enhance field suitability. This book 「I. Public life” section contains information on 'government offices, education, finance, society, care, and workplace', and as a real textbook, it provides a lot of essential information in daily life in connection with real life. Each unit consists of 'introduction of major units, introduction of small units, vocabulary learning, communication situation, Korean language culture, learning problems, finishing of small units, and taking a break'.
